Image to Base64 (Data URL)

A data URL embeds the image directly in text format: \"data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0...\". This lets you include images in CSS, JSON, or HTML without separate file requests. Useful for small images, email templates, and single-file exports.

Use Base64 for: small images (icons, small logos) to reduce HTTP requests, images in emails, CSS background images, inline in JavaScript/JSON. Avoid for: large images (Base64 is 33% larger), images used on many pages (no caching benefit), performance-critical sites.

Drop or select an image file. The tool encodes it and provides: the raw Base64 string, a complete data URL, CSS background-image syntax, and an HTML img tag. Copy whichever format you need.

All common formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG. The MIME type is automatically detected and included in the data URL. For best results, optimize images before converting - Base64 increases size, so start with optimized files.

No technical limit, but practical limits exist. Large Base64 strings slow page parsing. Browsers may have URL length limits. Email clients may reject large inline images. Keep Base64 images under 10-20KB for best results.
